Three bodegas to spend a night or two
One of the true pleasures of living in Spain is the opportunity to travel to interesting wine regions. Enjoying the landscape while comfortably driving my car on very quiet but well maintained roads, I am always looking forward to taste the specialties of the local kitchen and hopefully some great new wines.
If you like road trips it is highly likely you will embrace Spain. If you like to discover great wine and food then Spain will be your friend, too. And if you like to do both, Spain has a lot to offer! In my blog earlier this week I spoke about Somontano and that region is a great example of a region worthwhile to explore.
Once you have arrived, as a wine lover your visit will be even more enjoyable staying in a wine hotel. This will combine some of the elements of enotourism: Wine and food, beautiful views and time to rest in a peaceful landscape. Below are three of my favorite places to stay.
Pazo a Capitana in Cambados, Galicia, DO Rias Baixas
Back to history in a 15th century building close to the historic center of Cambados, a wine village close to the sea and part of the Ruta del Vino Rias Baixas. This region is famous for its Albarino and one of the famous producers Palacio de Fefinanes is close by. The hotel breathes wine as it is surrounded by vineyards and is good starting point for your tour in this magnificent wine region. The breakfast is one of the best I have ever had!

Hotel Eguren Ugarte, Laguardia, La Rioja, DOCa Rioja
Spectacular views on vast plots of vineyards is what you will get as you check in in this hotel in Laguardia. In the heart of Rioja Alavesa where some of the finest Rioja is being produced. The hotel offers gastronomic pleasure in their restaurant where of course you are able to enjoy their wine. They also offer a guided tour in their cellars which is fun, especially when you get to see the private cellars. As the exterior design is amazing, a place you won’t forget.

Bodegas Nodus, Caudete de las Fuentes, Valencia, DO Utiel-Requena
Bodegas Nodus is a bodega inland Valencia in the Utiel-Requena wine region, well known for wines of the Bobal grape. The bodega is beautifully surrounded by vineyards (see cover photo) featuring a number of old holm oak trees that give this place astonishing views. The bodega has a small hotel with a modern restaurant to enjoy local food and the bodega wine. In addition, a well-organized bodega tour with tasteful tapas and a welcome drink under the 300-old holm oak. Enjoy!
